August graduated from UBC with a B.A. in Mathematics and English Language, completed his B.Ed. at Simon Fraser University, and has been teaching in both the Independent and Public school systems since 1996. 
In 2007, he became the first educator in School District 23 to win a scholarship to attend the Space Camp Academy at the US Space and Rocket Centre in Alabama, for 50 hours of intense training in Science, Astronomy, Physics, Robotics, and Astronaut simulation. He began teaching robotics in the same year and has coached multiple winning robotics teams in local, national, and international competitions. After teaching in many schools over the years, August realized our community needed to provide more opportunities for students to learn and showcase their ability to merge science and technology with creativity and fun. He hopes the Okanagan Robotics Academy is one community that will help fill that gap.  

In his spare time, you might spy August hanging out in a tree as he is also a local arborist. Yikes!

Kelly is a longtime resident of Kelowna, moving here in the early 90’s. She completed her B.Ed. through the University of Victoria with a focus in Technology.

Kelly has taught in both the public and independent school systems since 1997 and is currently at St. Joseph Catholic School as the Athletic Department Director and Robotics instructor. Over the years, she has prepared and entered multiple teams to compete at the Western Canada RoboCup Jr. Championships. Her two eldest sons, Jackson and Jude, have won multiple robotics competitions, with Jackson going to Germany with the Canadian team in 2016 to compete at the world championships. Kelly frequently pulls both boys out of their university classes to come and help work with students at ORA. In her spare time, you'll find Kelly hiking around Kelowna and walking her dog, Bella.
