What's happening at ORA?

Castanet Kelowna media coverage of ORA

Thanks to Brayden Ursel for coming out to meet some of our families and students!

RoboCup 2023!

2-on-2 Robotic Soccer and Search & Rescue are the two big competitions students prepare for.

Completely autonomous robotics action!

Once the student presses the 'go' button, the robot is on its own.

And yes...some of the soccerbots get penalties for roughing :)

School District 23 Sumobot Competition is the largest annual robotics event hosted by the district. Teams of students from Grade 5-9 have their robots go head to head in a 'wrestling match' trying to push each other out of a 'sumo ring'.

This is an incredibly fun community event as 200 students (and many teachers and parents) scream and shout at their favourite bots...until one emerges champion.

ORA will be planning a similar annual event for Independent and Public schools in the future!

Not only is Dan Massey one of our instructors at ORA, but he also has his own YouTube Channel @MakerDan (click on the link). If students are interested in Star Wars and other amazing projects, Dan has documented his builds from beginning to end. From a Pit Droid, R2D2, C3P0 and IG-11 to a hovercraft with Captain America's shield, Dan's expertise in all things robotics simply shines. We are very blessed to have Dan share his expertise, in person, with the students at ORA!

What would it mean to see a loved one with mobility challenges walk again?

This touching story demonstrates the positive role robotic technology can have in people's lives.

At ORA, we strive to introduce this technology to students starting with age appropriate platforms and skill development, building to more advanced programming and electronics. With a heavy injection of fun, we are preparing the next generation of students equipped with the skills and human compassion to help make this world a better place.

Congratulations to all the students at Okangan Robotics Academy who recently competed at the 2024 Western Canada RoboCup Jr. Championships. We had 18 students from Grade 5 thru first year University competing taking first place finishes in Soccer and Search & Rescue.

Thanks to the Electrical Engineering Department at Okanagan College for putting on another great event, inspiring the next generation of engineers and computer science experts.

More Videos to come showcasing the great things happening at ORA!

Stay tuned!!
